A quick boost of lycopene!

While Addy and Keith were eating breakfast before school, Duncan was whining and pointing to the window. When I picked him up, he leaned over to get closer to the window and finally I realized what he wanted...the tomatoes sitting in the windowsill! Like his momma and sis he's a sucker for fresh-from-the-garden tomatoes! He may have gotten messy, but he enjoyed every bit of these tomatoes! What a great way to start the day!

I am currently in the process of creating the "perfect" outfit for Duncan to wear at his one year birthday party. When I realized I needed some matching thread, I asked Addy if she wanted to accompany me on a quick trip to Joanns. Never one to turn down totally immersing herself in craft world, she jumped up and joined me. While we were there we saw this cute little sewing machine on sale. Neither one of us could leave the store without it! We put it in the shopping cart and heading to get thread. As I was taking my time to pick out my thread, Addy said to me "Mommy, are you almost done? I just REALLY want to get home and start sewing!". Music to my ears...

Two days ago I blinked and my 9 pound baby boy was a 6 year old little man! We had an Incredible celebration with a few of his little friends and he was fortunate to receive a handful of some presents...all PERFECT for him! I asked him what his favorite present was and he said "That is an impossible decision to make...I loved them all!" Here is with one of them, a totem pole from Grandma and Grandpa. He has added his head to the top because apparently the head on the top of the totem is the most important in the totem's story!! Happy birthday wishes to my "top of the totem" boy!!

For a few weeks now, Duncan has been walking. And, boy does he LOVE to walk...don't try to stop him or you'll get an ear full of fuss! Add that to his curiosity of anything (the smaller the better) and that equals a house full of things placed in random areas of the house. As I type this, I realize that I couldn't even tell you where this Wii remote ended up!!

All my long-time blog followers know that I LOVE monarchs!! I am proud to say that Addy and I are the unofficial monarch providers and care takers for her 2nd grade class (they study monarchs for their first science theme). And, while I was preparing some milkweed to send to class, I noticed I accidentally plucked couple of eggs from the plant. Wanting them to survive, I pulled them aside so that I could put them back on fresh milkweed after they hatched. This morning after awakening early to take my mom to the airport, I noticed that one had JUST hatched. I was amazed at how super tiny it was. So, when I placed it back on a milkweed plant by the porch, I snapped this picture. Here is a newborn caterpillar (look close at the bottom leaf that is taped on, if you click on the picture, it should zoom in) and in the background is a caterpillar who is just about ready to form a chrysallis. Amazing. Please ignore my dirty thumbnail.

Well, the summer came and went with a blur as it always does! I approach the beginning of the school year with mixed emotions...I LOVE spending full days with all my kiddos but, lets face it, they're not ALWAYS angels and I might enjoy a few moments without them...
Anyway, as a last hurrah, we met the Allison kids and took our monkeys to the zoo. It was a beautiful day with minimal whining and complaining. A great way to end yet another great summer.
