C-Week: Curls, Carrots and Caterpillars
I thought I'd go along with the theme of Addy's preschool this week!!
Curls: Quite a lot of them.
Carrots:
I planted carrots and dill this year in my butterfly garden to attract swallowtail caterpillars. I started pulling them up, and found this gigantic one!
Caterpillars:
On the carrot leaves, I found ONE swallowtail caterpillar. I didn't know exactly what kind it was until I did some research. I was a bit baffled because the swallowtail caterpillars I discovered last year looked completely different than this one. But, apparently as they grow and shed their skin, they make a huge transformation from orange, black and spiky to a very bright green and black and smooth. This photo doesn't do it justice. It is quite possibly one of the most beautiful caterpillars I have ever seen! (yes, I know how geeky that sounds). Next year I'm going to plant fennel and parsley which apparently attracts them better than dill and carrots.

Keiths favorite presents and Dress-up Bible Study
Keith had a week long celebration of birthday last week...on Monday Nana and Uncle Buck brought over his first present, one of his favorites:
After the second picture we found out that Addison actually does exceed the 30 lb weight limit of the trailer...she actually bent the hitch and we couldn't get it off very easily!! We did have a difficult time trying to convince Keith to get back on the tractor after a very minor crash into some things in the garage! But, between him and Addy, I've had a lot of help hauling away dead weed piles!
On his actual birthday, Grandma and Grandpa came over and we had dinner and a Thomas the train cake celebration. That is when he got his other favorite present...a rocket ship! I think he's slept in it, er...I mean blasted off to Jupiter...every night since!
Finally, on Saturday, we went to the zoo so that Keith could ride the train and pet the sharks! After all those celebrations, he is officially 3 now!
Last Thursday we hosted our small group Bible study. That night we were making a decision on what to study next. Since we are lucky enough to have kids old enough to be trusted to play upstairs without adult supervison, we let them so that all of us adults could participate in the discussion. Every so often, we would sent an adult upstairs to check on everyone and at one point we discovered that the dress up trunk had been opened! We definitely had to take a break to snap some photos of these priceless outfits!

Another pic of Evan
Here is a pic of my mom with her new great-nephew (Evan) and Keith and Addison. Keith thought Evan was even more awesome after he met him because "he has bappies just like I do!" (hmmm, Evan is 1 week, Keith is nearly 3!). Now, if only Keith could get over being afraid of being licked by their dog, they'd be able to hang out much more!!

Camping: The Maiden Voyage of the Billmeier Pop-Up
Ah, the first camping experience in the pop-up. Just so that you can all experience it EXACTLY like we did; first, take a space heater into the bathroom and crank it up until the temperature is 95 degrees. THEN, turn on the shower until the humidity is probably 75%. Now try sleeping in that.
Yes, my friends, the heat was amazing this past weekend. Even at 230 in the morning when Addy woke up to go to the bathroom, my guess was it was still about 85 degrees! Thankfully, the second day the humidity dropped and then that evening it finally did cool off for a GREAT nights sleep! Despite the not-so-wonderful weather, we had a great time! Here are several pics of the trip.

Since we stayed at West Boggs Lake, we were right by Loogootee where my grandparents farm is. So, one day for entertainment, we hopped in the car and cranked the a/c while driving around town and I tried to regale a few childhood memories for the kids. Their favorite story was "there is the woods where Johnny flung the dead snake into the tree!".

On the second day, since the weather was a bit nicer, we even got to enjoy playing OUT of the water. Loogootee City Park is awesome!

Yet another FACTORY TOUR!
Yes, friends, its true. I never tire of a good factory tour. Last week we headed up north to visit our friends Guy, Rachel, Little Guy, and Noble. While the men went off to work Rachel, myself, and the kids went to visit the Spangler candy factory...makers of Dum-Dums, candy canes and circus peanuts (yuk). We were excited to be able to wear their stylish hats, which they kindly provided free of charge! Here we all are modeling our attire:
Keith even found a better way to wear his:
The tour itself was o.k.; a little disappointing to those of us who were lucky enough to go on factory tours before the strict FDA regulations that now prohibit any viewing of the kitchen unless its behind glass walls thick enough to contain a killer whale. BUT, we did get to watch a movie on how the candies were made, and we were able to see the dum-dums as they came down the shoots and into the packaging room. I think the kids liked the tour because it was given via a trolley!
And, yes, you were routed through a room FULL of their sugar-filled products that you could purchase. So, we bought a bag of Dum-dums for the road. Little Guy was very curious as to what circus peanuts tasted like, so Rachel bought a bag of those. I think the consensus from the kids was: yum (Guy), yuk, yuk, and yuk!
